Eupraxia Pharmaceuticals – EPRX-TSX/NASDAQ Mkt cap $160 million

EPRX is a Victoria-based biotech company that has developed a proprietary technology with the potential to provide the right dose of any drug at the right place in a patient’s body for the right amount of time. The company has multiple late-stage clinical assets, including two leading candidates for the treatment of Osteoarthritis knee pain and Eosinophilic esophagitis, a severely debilitating condition of the esophagus. Watch for potential near-term M&A and clinical catalysts.

Horizon Copper – HCU-V TXSV – Mkt Cap $91 million: Vancouver-based HCU bills itself as a “junior copper company with a major copper portfolio” with three world-renowned, low-cost copper assets in Peru, Turkey and Mongolia and ambitious plans to expand. Supporting this thesis are strong, long-term global copper fundamentals as well as a strategic partnership and unique capital structure with Sandstorm Gold Royalties (SSL-T Mkt cap $3.3 billion) that allows HCU to rapidly grow its portfolio with a relatively small market cap.

Kiwetinohk Energy – KEC-TSX Mkt cap $660 million: “Key-WHEAT-In-KNOW” means “north, or northward” in Cree, and is a name offered to this Calgary-based company by First Nation stakeholders near the company’s prolific oil & gas assets in the Montney and Duvernay formations of NW Alberta. With a strong production, FCF and high netback growth as well significant M&A activity surrounding it, this company looks to become yet another in CEO Pat Carlson’s legacy of success stories.

NexLiving Communities – NXLV-TSXV Mkt cap $55 million: Halifax-based NXL has a compelling value proposition: invest in existing multi-family properties in bedroom communities at attractive cap rates and transform them into +55 Active Living communities with low churn, premium tenants and new amenities. With more than 2,000 units in New Brunswick, Ottawa/Gatineau and smaller communities in ON & QC, blue sky prospects are excellent, given rising housing costs in big cities, an acute national housing shortage and strong immigration flows. The company continues to show strong free cash flow growth and pays a dividend.

Revolve Renewable Power Corp.  – REVV-TSXV Mkt Cap $14 million: REVV owns and operates a portfolio of renewable assets with strong recurring revenue growth across Canada, the U.S. and Mexico. It focuses on fast-deployable and scalable solar, wind and battery storage projects that provide power to commercial and industrial users. Key to the success is an aggressive M&A strategy for under-the-radar assets to feed huge and growing electricity demand from AI, cryptocurrency platforms and data centres. 

Surge Energy – SGY-T Mkt cap $500 million: SGY is a Calgary-based oil producer that takes pride in taking on low-cost, low-risk projects as it develops high quality, conventional oil reservoirs. With a current 10.1 % dividend yield, the company is focused on returning FCF to shareholders through a sustainable base dividend and share buyback program. Drilling capital in 2025 is focused on 65 net wells in two of the top four conventional oil plays in Canada: the Sparky (east-central AB) and SE Saskatchewan. Coverage from 10 analysts highlights low debt levels, low historic trading multiples.

Volatus Aerospace – FLT-V Mkt cap $75 million – Montreal-based FLT was voted “Top Growth Story” at our 2022 conference in France and is back to defend its title. As a global aerial solutions provider for governments and the private sector, Volatus operates commercial aviation and drones in oil & gas, power utility, infrastructure, border security and cargo markets. This scope of services, a robust IP platform and a state-of-the-art control centre, have helped scale-up a series of promising new of global partnerships. 

Westhaven Gold Corp. – WHN-TSXV Mkt cap $29 million: As gold prices continue to show sustained strength, it’s only a matter of when – not if – junior gold company valuations start to move in the same direction. This Vancouver-based gold explorer has to be at the top of any watchlist, as it brings a highly skilled mining team with a global reputation that is now focused on advancing a high-grade discovery in Canada’s newest gold district, the Spences Bridge Gold Belt in SW British Columbia, with a power line on the property and just off a main highway.
